Visual Studio 2017 / 2019 – Installation & Activation

This guide provides step-by-step instructions to help you successfully install and activate Visual Studio for the following supported versions:
- Visual Studio 2017
- Visual Studio 2019
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- Windows 10 or 11
- 4 GB RAM minimum (8+ GB recommended)
- 10–20 GB free disk space
- Stable internet connection
- Microsoft account (required for download and activation)
- Product key or subscription (only for Professional/Enterprise)
- Administrator rights
- Know which workloads you need (.NET, C++, Web, etc.)
Step 1: Download the Visual Studio Installer
Open your web browser and go to the official Visual Studio download pages:
- Visual Studio 2019:
https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/vs/older-downloads/ - Visual Studio 2017 (Older Versions):
https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/vs/older-downloads/
- Sign in with your Microsoft account if prompted.
- Choose the edition you need (Community, Professional, or Enterprise).
- Click Download and save the installer to your computer.
Step 2: Install Visual Studio
Locate the downloaded installer file and double-click it.
- If prompted, click Yes to allow the app to make changes.
- In the installer, select the workloads you need (e.g. .NET Desktop, Web, C++).
- Click Install.
- Wait for the installation to complete (this may take some time).
- Restart your PC if prompted.
Once finished, you can open Visual Studio and continue to the next step.
